Why I don’t use Aweber or GetResponse, and the alternative I use instead.

autoresponders, getresponse, mymailit

When starting online, you’ll no doubt be introduced to Aweber or Getresponse. “You need to build your list” everyone will say, and while that’s true, using a paid monthly service like Aweber or Getresponse to store your email addresses, can put many starting online entrepreneurs off before even starting their journey. I know, because I’m one of them. So, what is this alternative to aweber and getresponse you might ask? Read on and find out.

Aweber and Getresponse are amazing email services!

Before we continue though, both Aweber and Getresponse are amazing services, so please don’t misunderstand when I speak of these services and the alternative I use, the folks providing these services are doing a fantastic job, and provide great value for your money. It’s just not the best for me and my situation, that is all I hope to achieve in this post.

If you’re starting out in the internet marketing world

My focus today, is to look at someone starting out, where making a few dollars could be the key to spur one on, rather than failing because of too high an initial cost to even start.

With that said, typically, folks looking to start their online business because they want to earn more, become more successful. Having to pay for something before finding some success puts unnecessary strain on someone starting out online.

If you’re anything like me, you assume that you need to suck it up and take out either service, and this is specifically true if you’re in the IM or internet marketing niche, where Aweber and Getresponse are the go-to services for marketing campaigns.

Of course, there are many more email providers out there, some that are free, for example, Mailchimp. If your aim is to send out marketing email after email, promoting anything and everything under the sun, hoping to make a quick buck, then Mailchimp is not for you.

And this is where we start getting into the territory, of what you can and can’t do with your emails and ultimately with your business.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not promoting anything to do with spam, but I am talking about someone starting out, not doing things perhaps 100% correctly, and ultimately learning through experience, making progress, and finally seeing success.

How much do Aweber and Getresponse cost if you’re starting out?

To give you an example (pricing correct at the time of writing this post), for Aweber, their pricing starts at $19 per month for up to 500 subscribers. Getresponse starts at $15 per month for up to 1000 subscribers.

If you’re just starting out, that can be difficult to commit to, especially if, as was the case for me, I made many mistakes and didn’t find much success at all with my list building endeavours!

An email solution for online marketers: myMailit

And here is where a monthly expense for capturing leads is why I decided to look for an alternative, and why I don’t use Aweber or Getresponse. The alternative I’ve been using for a while now, MyMailit, is a service created by a very successful internet marketer who also happens to be a programmer, Brett Rutecky.

MyMailit Product Box

Here’s why I love and use MyMailit:

  1. It’s a one-off fee, no more monthly subscriptions
  2. There is no limit on the number of subscribers you can have (unlike the services where you pay more as you get more subscribers)
  3. Send emails to unlimited leads for no monthly cost
  4. No risk of your account getting canceled for a reason you’re not even told (this happens more often than you’d think)
  5. It includes a GDPR-ready form builder (a must-have if you get traffic from the EU)

What does myMailit really do, does it really work?

In a nutshell: myMailIt gives you full control of your online business and list building endeavours.

To give you further proof that this is used by real people, working on their online businesses, here is something you might enjoy seeing. At the time of writing this post, more than 7000 myMailIt users sent 2.5 million emails to over 4 million subscribers in the last 30 days alone without ever paying 1 cent in monthly fees!

Now that’s something powerful, especially since all this didn’t have a monthly fee attached to it!

How does myMailit work and why is it so powerful?

MyMailit uses your domain as the sending domain. It uses your website’s SMTP and IMAP mail settings. This is incredibly powerful because you no longer rely on any third-party service or server, everything is sent from your domain and host account, and in that builds trust, because the email comes from you! This is huge in today’s world.

If you’re not sure how to set this up, there is, of course, a tutorial in the myMaillit back end that will help with this, but of course, you can simply contact your hosting company (if it’s not covered in the tutorials) and get the settings you need. Easy as pie!

What else do you get in the myMailit members area?

Here you’re given all the tools you could possibly need to start building your email list. The tools include:

  • A form builder (the form you’ll need on your squeeze page or landing page to collect the email address. There are over 40 templates to choose from)
  • List Reports (this is self-explanatory, here you can see how your list is growing)
  • List Checkup (here you can see how engaged your list is, and an overall list health check)
  • DFY (done for you) Lead Pages (here you can give away Brett’s plugins with ready-made pages created for you. I created one here, click to check out the free plugin: Jack Jacker)
  • GDPR forms (here you can create opt-in forms with checkboxes for agreeing to terms of service and privacy policy as well as agreeing to receive emails.)
  • And Bonuses where you get access to some of Brett’s other awesome plugins.

Check out this good-looking opt-in box (it’s one of the templates)!

In conclusion, do you need Aweber or Getresponse?

I’d say no. There are many alternatives that offer a similar service, but for me, using MyMailit comes out on top, and I have piece of mind that it will continue to be supported by the developer because he uses it himself in his business.

I must add again that both Aweber and Getresponse are fantastic services, I’m not saying they aren’t, all I hoped to get across in this post, is that there are alternatives, and one that I think fits better for me and my situation. If you’re in a similar situation, you may want to check MyMailit out. In my opinion, it’s a very powerful alternative to Aweber and Getresponse.

Please note, my links in this post are affiliate links, so should you decide to check MyMailit out for example, I thank you for doing so.

I must admit though, Aweber have fantastic training courses though, when starting out, I had no clue what to write in my emails (which is not a good place to be), but a good start was this training from Aweber. I hope it helps you!
